Sustainability of the arts ecosystem

Makers

Makers is a strategy of the Instituto Distrital de las Artes - Idartes that seeks to strengthen the abilities of artists, groups, collectives and organizations for the management, formulation and creation of projects in the artistic and cultural ecosystems of the city, with special emphasis on territories and social sectors. This is done through workshops, meetings of creators, assistance of experts, fairs and various pedagogical tools.

The strategy emerged in 2019 as a mechanism that sought to bring the territories closer to the offerings of institutional development, especially the District Incentives Program (PDE, for the Spanish original). Since 2020, Makers has been consolidated as a strategy for community cultural management, and, thanks to the recognition it has achieved among the agents of the sector and the positive impacts it has generated in the different territories, in 2022 it was structured as a training process that favors the development of abilities for the formulation of cultural projects, the qualification of artistic initiatives and their sustainability.

In its first version, Makers had the participation of 50 community artistic and cultural initiatives from the 20 localities of Bogotá, which were selected from an open call that received 296 applications. The second version expanded the number of beneficiaries to 100 agents, collectives and organizations throughout the city, while the third version provided a total of 130 places for a training process focused on culture, community and territories, formulation of cultural projects and resource management, sustainability and communication.

Makers is the result of joint work between the Social Sectors Area, the Art and Memory without Borders Line and the Sustainability of the Artistic Ecosystem Line of Idartes.
